CORYNOCARPUS LAEVIGATUS - Karaka
larger imageMove mouse over the image to magnify
A large growing evergreen tree with big, flat, glossy leaves growing a large canopy which spreads as the plant matures. Traditionally it is found in coastal and lowland forests from Northland to the Banks Peninsula. As well as being a great tree for coastal gardens and native situations, Karakas can provide tall screening, privacy and green colour between properties within an urban location. The fruit attracts native birds; however, plant with caution in regards small children and pets as the berries are poisonous.
